Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on Passover

Ottawa, ON – The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on Passover:

“Thousands of years ago, G-d rescued the people of Israel from bondage and ushered them to freedom. As G-d ‘passed over’ the homes of the Israelites and wrought destruction on their enemies, He ushered them into a new era – destroying the chains of slavery and securing liberty for His people.

“Ever since the days of the Exodus, this hope has been at the core of Passover. As families gather in synagogues and around the Seder table, they are reminded that, even in their darkest hour, G-d will be faithful.

“For centuries, the Jewish people have found solace and strength in this assurance. Unfortunately, this hope is needed today more than ever. Once again, the people of Israel have been attacked in their ancestral homeland. Around the world, and even here in Canada, we are seeing a hideous resurgence of antisemitism.

“In the face of this ignorance and hatred, it is easy to lose hope. But the message of Passover continues to be a beacon of redemption in these dark times. It encourages us not to give into despair but to cling to the knowledge that justice and freedom will one day be restored.

“As Jewish families in Israel, Canada and around the world retell the story of Passover around the Seder table and how you were freed from Egypt, I offer my best wishes. May each of you be blessed with the comfort of Passover and the assurance of G-d’s enduring love.

“Happy Passover. Chag Pesach Sameach.”
